Student Project: Year 4

Lost and Found tests the boundaries of a studio brief that prompts the full usage of a large site in a small town. This project proposes an alternative, aiming to achieve maximum social value, with the minimum building footprint.

Using insertion as an adaptive re-use strategy, the salvageable section of the Sims Foundry building is given new life through a prefabricated timber structure, providing earthquake strengthening as well as performance. The proposed uplifting and re-wilding of half of the port car park envisions a child-friendly pump track and simple pavilion to enrich the young families within the town.

This project served as a crucial learning experience in maintaining circular design principles, while resolving complex integration between building envelope, structure, and a derelict heritage building.
