Florida Pod

2024
Student Project: Year 3

Designed in 12 hours and inspired by the media attention given to the inability of people without vehicles to flee the hurricanes experienced in the American southeast, Florida Pod is a concept for emergency shelter during and after extreme weather events.

Its form is driven by an exploration of wind-resistant structures and raises the occupants off the ground away from floodwaters. The pod can be assembled at ease, and explores the jarring, yet feasible concept of ad-space becoming a means for funding, visible to news coverage from the sky.
